I work across web development, Minecraft servers and plugins, automation, and security tooling. Most of it sits where software meets a community of real users. Zyren is what most people call me.

    Security & code review automation

    A bot that reviews GitHub pull requests before they're merged. It checks the code for potential security issues and vulnerabilities, then writes up what it found in a report, taking over part of the security review process.

    Head Developer2018 — 2020

    Led development for the server and worked on its core plugins and systems. Built and maintained the custom Minecraft plugins the network used.

    Worked with developers and creators in the Minecraft 1.8 PvP community, and helped manage features, technical development, and server updates.

About

I'm James Walker, though I go by Zyren almost everywhere online. Most of my development work has been where software, communities, and infrastructure overlap, from Minecraft networks and web applications to automation and security tooling.

I like building systems that solve a real problem, whether that's a custom plugin, an automated workflow, a web app, or a tool that makes development a bit safer.

Away from the keyboard I've also mentored students at iD Tech, and I studied computer science at the University of Florida and the University of Miami.
